Welcome back to Cities Skylines 2! In this new series, I'm testing the limits of city planning by embarking on a unique challenge: building a city with a twist – it's pedestrian-only, dubbed 'Walk City'. The idea is bold and a bit unorthodox, but that's what makes it exciting. Can a city function without cars? Let's find out together in this first episode.

We start off with the basics, setting up a small roundabout and some large parking lots. The big question looms – can we make a city in Cities Skylines 2 where cars are essentially non-existent? As we lay down pedestrian paths and roads, I ponder whether residents will respect the no-car rule or if they'll bring their vehicles anyway. It's an experiment at every turn.

The first challenge we encounter is the game mechanics – trying to connect a roundabout to a pedestrian path turns out to be trickier than expected. It’s a learning curve understanding how pedestrian paths work in Cities Skylines 2, but that’s part of the adventure. Join me as I navigate these initial hurdles, and together, we'll see if these paths can pave the way to a car-free city.

A major component of this experiment is ensuring essential services like water and power are up and running. I opt for a groundwater plant and solar power, as these options don't require external resource deliveries that might tempt the use of vehicles. It's all about maintaining the integrity of our pedestrian-only vision.

As the city begins to take shape, we're faced with intriguing questions: Will people bring their cars despite the pedestrian-only setup? How will service vehicles like ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars operate in this environment? It's a balance between maintaining essential services and sticking to our car-free policy.

Introducing train stations brings a new dynamic to Walk City. The idea is to have residents park outside the city and use trains to commute in. It's fascinating to watch as the first buildings spring up and people start using the train system. The city's transformation is in full swing.

The experiment takes an interesting turn when I notice people parking at the train stations and commuting into the city. Buildings are popping up faster, and the city's heart begins to beat. The critical test – will people get into cars once they're in the city, or will they embrace the pedestrian lifestyle?

Service vehicles are an exception in Walk City. It's intriguing to see them as the only vehicles amidst a sea of pedestrians. This unique setup leads to efficient service operations, free from typical urban congestion. The city's health and safety are in good hands, even in this unconventional setup.

As Walk City grows, we face new challenges like ensuring enough parking spaces and managing the influx of residents and visitors. I explore options like underground and automated parking lots to accommodate the growing need for parking while maintaining our car-free city space.

The city's evolution continues with the addition of schools, trams, and tourist attractions. Each new element brings its own set of challenges and opportunities. Watch as I adapt and innovate to keep Walk City thriving while sticking to its core principle of being a pedestrian paradise.

Throughout this episode, I share my thoughts, strategies, and occasional surprises that come with building a city like no other in Cities Skylines 2. It’s a journey filled with learning, experimentation, and a fair share of humor. Witness the birth of a city where the streets are ruled by pedestrians, and cars are just a memory.
