Final video and the big cop out. We tackle the final boss and all of the scenes involved.

I enjoyed the Earthbound like vibe, but right here it pretty much feels like the devs stole the ending. One nice thing is that it is not as obscure as Earthbound with the whole praying thing, but the entire game was too short for any sort of attachment to be built with the characters. Plus, the characterization of the citizens pretty much ends when you recruit them, meaning they lack the depth they are supposed to have for this ending to really be meaningful. It could have worked for a smaller cast like it did for Earthbound and Persona, but it doesn't work for casts like Suikoden and Pokemon. If the characters had some sort of characterization side quest linked to them for a reward, things may have been different, but the world is just too small to have quests for 40 citizens. Everything needed to be bigger for something like this to really work.

So in the end, I have to say that Citizens of Earth failed to set itself apart other than for its color palette and writing. There were so many things that could have been better, but the game just feels mediocre in the end. And while there may be 40 characters, I don't really have much desire to try to play through it again and try things differently. There isn't really much in ways to customize citizens beyond stats, and trying to use different citizens just leads to down time grinding. Teacher's tutoring may need a buff to make it worthwhile to bring lower citizens up to speed, especially since you can't even use 10% of your citizens at one time.

Sadly, this is the last JRPG sitting in my library at the moment, meaning I'll have to change up my regular uploads to some of the point and click games that I've been holding onto since the Steam sale. Or go back to Alphadia Genesis, one of the two. And we're starting with the Dark Hero run of Life is Strange.
