"DOSBox doesn't support Windows 9x, you're better off rom hunting to use something better suited for it, such as PCem." Yeah, that's right & "the other camp" "freaking fast" Voodoo "fake" acceleration will have all your games covered. True, so long one is rich enough to pay specialty & exclusive price to Intel factory for cherry-picked latest & greatest Alderlake CPU and submerge it in liquid nitrogen. And, don't forget to disable SMT and all forms of CPU power management.

"Cut it out, please, those fans can't take jokes ..." "Alright, alright ... " "Hey, where's the macOS build?! Oh gosh, it segfault again ..."

So the unsupported DOSBox SVN running Windows 98 SE along with VOODOO emulation seems to be the best & easy way to play some good old Windows games on Apple M1, which are difficult and cumbersome to have them working on Windows XP. DOSBox SVN VOODOO emulation is a wonderful complement for 3Dfx games when OpenGLide failed for them and for early Direct3D games which pose great challenges for QEMU WineD3D OpenGL wrapping.

Finally, an overview of Direct3D performance from Final Reality 1.01 benchmark and they are indeed better than QEMU TCG with WineD3D. I wonder how "the other camp" would fare in this benchmark if it get to use the Apple M1 stellar ST performance. Or perhaps, someone will help to enlighten me by linking into the comment section the video of "freaking fast", "24-thread" Voodoo acceleration with Intel Alderlake Core i9-12900k. Will any of the fans from "the other camp" answer the challenge?
