QEMU A Jedi Outcast (2002) From Install to Play In 15 mins
Ah, Everyone just LOVES STAR WARS themed games. A sequel to Dark Forces II, but this time LucasArts licensed IdTech Quake3 engine instead of using their own in-house ones. The OpenGL-powered game engine makes this game an easy target for QEMU MESAGL pass-through. Coupled with Virtualization, the GAME can simply be played at Maximum Quality in ANY circumstances. The frame rate locked at the game engine default maximum 90 FPS almost at all time. A true modern GPU accelerated 3D rendering from OpenGL has very little performance variation from 640x480 to 1600x1200 for games at this age. A PERFECT preservation in "pristine condition" on modern systems. No more fans' patch, source-ports maybe nice but no longer necessary in the name of originality.
While the "other camp" continues to flounder "which latest & greatest CPU" to emulate Pentium II to play a 20-year old game, or how to tinker with overclocking for all-core turbo, disable SMT & all CPU power management, QEMU does not require any kind of tinkering. It just works, and works on low-power, efficient mobile CPUs for thin & light laptops. The key differentiator is the true GPU acceleration.
"Games like Jedi Outcast run great on VMware". Oh sure, I have no doubts of such words from the "other camp" fanboys. It would be so wonderful if they also start making videos to show Good Old Games on VMware. I am looking forward to watching such videos from them.
