3i've found that, when i play late into the evening in my timezone, i sometimes get really empty servers. after a few players are killed, the server is empty and i can just grind for kills and loot against all the zombie-populated villages.
i did use darksight immediately after picking up the bounty, but then was grinding very loudly and conspicuously for mobs for a long time without interacting with anyone else; seemed like the server was empty. any other players can see my bounty marker on the map, and must have been waiting for the right opportunity. right at the extraction, i had some leftover dark sight and did a throwaway scan, not expecting to see anything. to my surprise, another player was right there and i have no idea how long he had been following me. its a good reminder not to get greedy if you have a bounty; you should probably leave right away, because the upside is outweighed by the downside.
