Coat Hanger Electricity Challenge

The Challenge: Can you generate a tiny amount of electricity with salvaged Coat Hangers?

Don't forget to like and subscribe!

Items required for Challenge:

1. A video camera or phone to record your work.
2. A voltameter or oscillator to show that there is a small amount of current.
3. Copper wire or conductive wiring of your choice to help create the solenoid or device of your construction.
4. Salvaged Coat Hanger pieces - you can make a rod or any shape you want.
5. Alligator clips to make the connections, soldering or clamps can work as well but insulated Alligator Clips are simple and quick to use with no mess.
6. A magnet with enough strength to create an on-off switching electromagnetic field.

OFFICIAL RULES

1. For your challenge to be successful, it must be very clear that there is some current generated by your setup.

Microfarads or Nano-farads are perfectly acceptable, since most of the experiments will only generate a small amount of electricity.

The symbol on your voltameter for Microfarads might look like this: µF or nF - or even hFE.

You might have to look up the manual for your voltameter in order to get it to a sensitive enough setting on the selector.

These more sensitive settings are for testing transistors, which are usually working with small amounts of energy.

If you record your work, make sure the voltameter is visible.

2. Make sure you are using safe practices at all times with any and all of the materials you are using. If you're a child / teenager make sure to get your parent'(s) permission and consider making this a fun family project.

3. No external power sources are allowed. So there should not be any batteries or power generator equipment nearby. The only exception would be the battery inside the voltameter itself but this shouldn't affect the results. Also make sure the record the device when idle to show an idle state.
