DISCLAIMER: This is a very old machine with low CPU clock speed, I recommend that all computers use a standard CPU fan. The only reason this worked is in my opinion because the original machines used a proprietary modified case fan setup for their cooling system. Take all proper thermal and safety precautions for computer builds. This video is for entertainment purposes.

Previously the Dell Dimension 3000 was still very loud even after case conversion because of two reasons:

1. It was using a very old CPU fan that was actually a converted case fan. Dell Dimension 3000 units had a strange setup where they used a plastic green heat transfer system to which heat to the case fan.

I removed the old case fan entirely and replaced it with a Be-Quet Silent Wings non-PWM fan. This helped tremendously. As you can see I removed the top cover entirely to allow for more air-flow out of the top exhaust area.

2. The unit came with a Geforce video card that was extremely noisy. So I removed that entirely and since the CPU has on-board graphics it was great.

The unit can run Mechwarrior 3 without an issue and it also runs my music software as well.

Overall the computer now runs at an average of 6db which is literally nothing compared to the noise it was making before. The machine has about 4 Be Quiet! case fans plus the built-in fan for the power supply. I'm very happy with the machine.

I might get a CPU fan for this unit later if I notice any thermal issues but overall its seems to run great and is quiet as a whisper!
