Code Vein Level 1 Solo -- Argent Wolf Berserker (#4)
This is the easiest boss so far, if he's really a boss. Though I suppose: he has a health bar at the top of the screen, and it says "Greater Lost Dispersed" when you beat him, and you have to defeat him to progress in the game. Eh. Good enough for me.
Anyway, he's the only boss in the game (to my knowledge) that can be backstabbed, so of course we abuse that as much as possible. Several of his attacks are oneshots without defensive buffs, sometimes even with them, which is always fun. Ultimately he's a very simple fight. The main risk is running out of stamina by failing backstabs, which makes it impossible to dodge, as most of his attacks require two dodges to avoid.
The actual challenge here is the boss run, which killed me more times than the boss, which is why I included it. These angel ladies are capable of teleporting to attack you from offscreen, and there are four of them on the way to the boss. The only indication that this is happening is a subtle audio cue that sounds like a faint twinkling. Watching the video after the fact, I still can't hear the sound of the fourth one (the one that hit me). Doing this without quick dodges is hellish, and is the only reason I kept that Sunset Bayonet around. With the quick dodges, it's a mild annoyance, but still the worst boss run in a game of pleasantly easy boss runs.
Actually, I'm going to rant for a moment: boss runs in Dark Souls are stupid. If I want to retry a boss, I want to retry right away (think like Super Meat Boy). The longer it takes between attempts, the less my practice will stick. Doesn't that seem really counter-intuitive? In other news, I also think the whole "interconnected world" thing is pretty overblown, considering it doesn't affect the core gameplay in any meaningful way (read: it doesn't change how you fight stuff). I know, I know, criticizing Dark Souls is sacrilege. Eh. Feel free to argue with me in the comments section.
See you in the next video.
