Nicola is definitely a difficult fight if you aren't prepared very well. For this fight, pierce/fire/lightning will be the order of the day for regular fighting. There really isn't a good reason to use slash against the biggest of boys! His damage is astronomical in terms of the higher difficulties. It's definitely best to stagger him in the first phase before his resistances increase in phase 2. It is possible to dodge his rocket slam if timed correctly as well. Nicola is a very fun and interesting fight since there are several mechanics at play.
