Cognitive Consequence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: A Case Study
Layman Abstract : Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a serious sleep disorder that causes breathing interruptions during sleep. It can lead to extreme tiredness and difficulty concentrating during the day. Doctors diagnose OSA using an overnight sleep test that tracks brain activity, breathing, heart rate, and other body functions.
This report discusses a 62-year-old man who suffered from severe daytime sleepiness and cognitive issues due to untreated OSA. A sleep study confirmed his condition. His treatment included using a CPAP machine (which helps keep the airway open during sleep), making lifestyle changes, and attending therapy sessions focused on exercise and healthy eating.
After treatment, the patient showed some improvement, but some symptoms persisted. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and proper management of OSA to prevent long-term health issues.
