This shows how to beat Cold Hard Crash & get both Gems. One Clear Gem is gotten by breaking all 155 crates in the level while the other Clear Gem is found at the end of the Death Route. Going on the Death Route is necessary to get all of the crates.

Getting all of the crates in this level requires a bit of work & getting both Gems in 1 run is even worse. I'll do my best to explain what to do.

There are 2 Aku Aku crates to be found on the main part of the level before reaching the Death Route platform. I recommend doing your best to hang on to these without getting hit. Go through the level without dying until you reach the Death Route platform.

If you intend to get both Gems in 1 run then DO NOT break the Checkpoint crate right next to the Death Route platform. If you're only going for the Box Gem then it's probably better to NOT break the Checkpoint crate just yet. If you're only going for the Death Route Gem then breaking this Checkpoint Box is OK.

Once you're on the Death Route tread carefully along until you reach the Arrow crate. Make sure you kill all of the enemies leading to this point. Inside 1 of the crates above the Arrow crate is a secret Aku Aku. Hopefully you were able to keep the 2 Aku Aku from before. If you weren't able to it's OK you'll just have to try not to lose him before you reach the Nitro minefield.

After the many Nitro crates is a steel ! crate before a drop off. At this point if all you want is the Death Route Gem then simply fall of the ledge to grab it and then finish the level. However, if you're going for the Box Gem then hit the ! crate and head back to break the lone crate that appears.

Once you break the lone 1-UP crate that appeared keep going backwards and then jump back onto the Death Route platform that brought you here. This will take you back to the Checkpoint crate that I told you not to break earlier. Break it now so that all of the crates that you got on the Death Route are saved. If all you wanted was the Box Gem then you can continue from here along the main route until the end of the level. Make sure you skip down to the "A few things to note..." part down below to see a few important things about some of the crates in this level.

If you want to get both Clear Gems instead of just the Box Gem then you'll need to go back onto the Death Route (I know, I know). The problem is the Death Route platform doesn't want to work anymore, but there's an easy fix. Walk a little to the left or right so that the platform can no longer be seen on your screen then turn back around. Voila, it works again.

Go all of the way to the end of the Death Route again, but this time drop down to grab the Gem. You'll land on the main route further along in the level. Because this makes you skip over some crates on the main route you'll need to jump into the nearby pit WITHOUT breaking the new Checkpoint. This way you will start back at the Checkpoint next to the Death Route platform, but you'll still have the Death Route's Clear Gem & all crates that you've broken until now. From here you can continue on with the level & grab all of the remaining crates to get the 2nd Clear Gem.

A few things to note about some of the crates in this level:
1: In the Bonus Stage there is a difficult to see crate floating above the pair of Bounce crates. Jump on top of the top Bounce crate to hit this hidden crate.

2: At about 4:02 there is a TNT crate followed by several regular crates. The TNT crate has a tendency to not break all of the nearby crates so make sure that it does before continuing on with the level.

3: At 4:50 there is a crate in an alcove wedged between the back wall and some Nitro crates. You MUST get this crate manually. The Nitro crates WILL NOT break this crate when they explode from hitting the Green ! crate near the end of the level.
