Cold Waters Tactics: Red SSN vs NATO ASW Group

Need tactical help with the mission "Cornered"? Can't deal with NATO escorts and helos dropping torpedoes on you? Observe my attack in an Alfa, taking out a Knox-class frigate and sending the Belknap off scared...

Cornered is the first single mission where you are playing for the Red Team (Soviet side) and the default submarine selection is the Alfa, the super-fast (but not particularly quiet) sub, with very limited torpedo capacity.
By default, the Alfa only carries 18 torpedoes and decoys, with the following loadout:
6 x SET-65 III (anti-sub only)
2 x SAET-60M (anti-surface, acoustic)
3 x 53-65K (anti-surface, wake-homing)
1 x Shkval hyper-cavitating anti-surface torpedo
2 x Vjuga anti-sub missile torpedoes
4 x Koround-2 mobile decoys
So basically, you ONLY have 5 torpedoes to hit the escorts with, unless you want to risk using the Shkval. Personally, I find the SEAT-60M completely useless, with sensor range of ONLY 600m (Mk48 has a sensor range of almost 2km). The 53-65K not only has more range (19km), it's also completely immune to noisemakers (being a wakehomer).
Now, onto the mission.
For this run, I decided not to mess with the loadout, but I did change the tubes to 1 decoy, 2 wakeseekers, and 1 acoustic. We start just below the weak layer. We set silent running and try to find the NATO ships. However, we also lack a towed array. Still, we do what we can.
We quickly detected ships and ASW helos to the northwest, and those resolved into a Knox-class frigate and a Belknap-class cruiser. We were heading southwest, and we turned south to open the distance. We also went to 300m depth. But when we noticed the ships were heading east, we turned west instead. Seems Knox will pass closer at about 7km, with Belknap well to the north (about 15km). I decided to load ALL of my anti-surface torpedoes (except the Shkval) and wait for them, as the helos were dipping well to the north and northeast.
When both the Belknap and the Know turned northward, I decided I am close enough, and launched 2 wakehomers against the Knox in a spread. One will catch him if he continues, one will catch him if he continues his left turn. We turned southwest, dove for 400m, and accelerated to 15 kt to evade.
One wakehomer did latch onto the Knox and took it out. The other missed and while it was heading vaguely toward the Belknap, it was too far away. NATO ships fired 3 torpedoes at my torpedo, but due to my evasion at 15 kt, we were already out of range.
We turned north, as the Belknap headed toward us, looking for us. Just when a ship appeared to the west. We quickly determined it to be a merchant and disregarded it.
At a distance of about 8 km, we launched all 3 anti-surface torpedoes in a spread, trying to bracket Belknap. We also popped a decoy toward it and evaded to the west. Unfortunately, Belknap executed a snap turn to the east and accelerated away, and NONE of the three torpedoes hit.
We had one more try: we loaded the Shkval, and went shallow. We waited for the Belknap to approach within 5km, shot the Shkval at it, then went emergency deep to 400m and went flank (to 41kt) and get out of the area.
Shkval missed. But sinking one out of two escorts ain't bad. We disengaged.

There were many different factors discussed, from how to position your submarine, to how to read sensor panels. How to set activation points with torpedo, and how to dogleg. How to conduct baffle attacks and how to consider approach angles to optimize sensors. How to locate enemies...
