Here is a demonstration of the 1541 performance test program. This program is a god indication and starting point in figuring out if a disk drive is functioning. Of course, if the disk drive will not load a directory or a program, it makes it hard to run this program unless of course, you have another disk drive. If you can load a program, that in itself is a good indication that the unit is working ok, but this tests the reading, writing, formatting, etc...
