Cyberdyne Warrior, developed by Apex Computer Productions and published by Hewson in 1992.

This was the first game by the Rowland brothers and although it appeared after Retrograde, it is the prequel to that game. I’m guessing problems with publishing held the game up as Cyberdyne Warrior was developed first due for release in 1989 but only Retrograde came out in 1989. I am not sure how it was initially released as I can't find any boxart online but I encountered it on Commodore Format PowerPack tape on issue 17 of the Magazine (Feb 1992). Being published by Hewson I imagine it would have been a budget game as well. The Presentation of the game is glips at what we would see from the Rowlands in their later games. Who knew they would be the ones to push the C64 to its absolute limits in both gameplay and presentation. (Well we knew as Cyberdyne Warrior came out late and Creatures 2 was on its way!)

The video opens with Intro not originally included with the game but found years later, incomplete without sound. Once ingame your control the space marine and guide it through 3 planets rescuing all the droids. You go round the levels collect credits which are needed to buy energy, ammo and weapon upgrade. Once you have all droids collected you need to return to the shop to teleport out. Coins can actually be devilishly hidden as well but are well rewarding if you find them.

The game is not easy and you do need to map the levels in your mind to plan your route through the levels as there are plenty of places to land where your energy is absorbed super fast. It's expensive to replace as well.
