Condemned: Criminal Origins, made by Monolith and published by Sega in late 2005, is honestly one of the strangest yet most interesting games I've ever played.

The story is a bit nonsensical, chasing a killer known as "The Match Maker" while also being pursued yourself by the police. Along the way you deal with various crime scenes, trying to piece together the story of what the hell is happening. This is also coupled with your sinister "instincts,” which honestly I have no idea what it does apart from letting you see things from the killer’s perspective.

It's really weird but I don't think that is the game’s best point by far; the best part of Condemned is the combat.

The combat is so damn refreshing. Decent melee combat with various improvised weapons against pretty intelligent (most of the time) enemies that will hide and feint attacks to ruin your timing. It's honestly great.

They even approached guns in such an interesting way! Guns are semi-rare, limited and highly dangerous when used against you. Focusing down an enemy using them is important; you can even disarm them and use it yourself, turning the tide very quickly.

I've not touched this game in nearly a decade (I feel so old now putting that) and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.

---[Issues]---
Alas games that run on the Lith engine (Condemned and FEAR being notable examples) do not run that well on more modern systems it seems, the first few episodes have some slight frame-rates that will cause it to just tank randomly, sometimes by only a few frames, to more extreme (and really unplayable) 3-10 frames per second.

Thankfully, there is a fix for that! If you're having the same issue with this game and say, the old FEAR games, there is a file you can just shove in the game directory and it should fix it fine.

You can find it here: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/789-directinput-fps-fix

Please note: I am not the creator or have anything to do with the mod, I can't help you troubleshoot problems if any appear or if this fix doesn't work.

---[Shoutout]---
This series is inspired by a couple of friend’s streams covering true crime cases; in short, they cover various incidents and murders in various points in history that were either pretty well known or rather obscure.

I've found them pretty fascinating, more so than I thought I would!
They explore circumstances, evidence and motives of these crimes and do quite a lot of research before sharing the story. It’s a nice change of pace from the usual stuff you see on Twitch.

But of course these type of streams are not common due to the heavy amount of research required, although they do other interesting games to make up for it.

They are: TheWeirdKind & Thaleesi_

You can find me on most of their streams too, either getting banned for something I totally didn't do or taking part in ruining whatever they are doing (usually Overwatch or Dead by Daylight).

---[Purchase]---
Condemned can be bought only on Steam it seems. Given its age I thought it'd make an appearance on GoG but sadly not.

Another sad thing is that I rarely see it on sale barring the big seasonal ones, but when it does appear it drops about 75% off.
