Conqueror: Empire Rises Review — Rome: Total War Area Control
154We review this Conqueror expansion, which brings the Ancient World area control in a medium weight package! Conqueror: Empires Rises is an expansion to Conqueror: Final Conquest, adding elite units, archers, and much more combat mechanisms. For 3-6 players, this game reminds us a LOT of Game of Thrones the Board Game, 2nd Edition, which also featured players fighting with asymmetrical powers over forts, having a supply limit, and the infantry + cavalry units to move around. However, Conqueror: Empire Rises is a more streamlined package, with some worker placement through the policy boards, and buy-able heroes to unleash on fights, like Alexander the Great to attack multiple times in a turn. Also you can get upgrades for your army, like Thoroughbred or Amphibious Assault to strategize around. We can’t resist the Rome: Total War comparisons as it has all of the unique factions of Rome, Carthage (elephants), Egyptians, and even Persians to fight over the mediterranean.
There’s also an emperor edition coming up which will provide even more replayability and special powers! Clocking in at around 2-2.5 hours for talkative groups, does Conqueror: Empires Rises have a bright future at its gamefound? How does it compare to Ashton’s favorite area control of Twilight Imperium 4 Prophecy of Kings?
