Conquest of Elysium 3 (Enchanter) Part 1
The Enchanter is a rather unique faction. They are perhaps the first faction I have tried that can completely alter the terrain of the world beyond just setting fire to forests or mutating them into Troll Woods.
Enchanters use only gold and iron. They have standard recruiting options but using those will eat into your supplies to make golems and other constructs. Apprentices can produce things like Gargoyles, Spearman constructs, and animated weapons and armor. Standard Enchanters and Greats can produce statues to defend areas as well as numerous types of golems. They can also make two way portals to quickly travel across the land.
The thing though is to upgrade enchanters or create golems requires the enchanter to be on a certain tile. In almost all cases, doing the upgrade or creation will destroy or otherwise remove the tile from the map. Coal Mines become hills, Iron Mines become mountains, Frozen Lakes become Swamps, Swamps become plains, Forests become Dead Woods, Ancient Forests become Shadow Wood and so forth.
So I suppose a very patient player can actually clear most hindering tiles from around them assuming you have the resources available. Unfortunately, the stronger the golem, the more AP it takes to create. Crystal golems take 8 AP for example but are extremely strong and have six attacks a round and can summon stationary defenders.
I found the best strategy is to summon strong golems (duh) and support them with the undead creations that can Enslave units. Then fill your ranks with archers and go to town. This game I get to show off taking on larger armies and winning through magic and endurance rather than just doing an ordinary slug and crossbow fest.
Overall, Enchanter is a fun faction to play as but does take some time to get rolling. And destroying your mines early can have serious costs in the late game.
