You chose the Necromancer... lose 27 sanity points.

So the Necromancer has a relatively basic start. They start with some spears and a couple of crossbowmen along with tier 1 and tier 2 necromancer. They can hire most of the standard units anyone would use (spears, swords, archers, crossbows, and heavy infantry). But they have the means to mass produce undead through a risk reward system involving Raise Dead and insanity.

Necromancers use Hands to perform summons and upgrades. But Raise Dead costs no hands at all and only requires there to be dead in the area. Unfortunately, each use of Raise Dead puts a stackable debuff on that necromancer called Insanity. Each point of Insanity equals one percent chance to not take an action that month. Each Raise Dead gives six insanity and there are no means for ordinary necromancers to remove this and it does not wear off over time. So if you spam Raise Deads, you will quickly find yourself with no champions to use on your turns and be sitting ducks while your opponents continue to grow.

So it is best to only use Raise Dead if there is a large amount of dead in the area such as graveyards and battlefields or if you are just desperate for shock troops. There summons on the other hand use Hands but build no insanity. Most of the summons are things like Shades, Ghosts, and various Spectral Troops. It is also possible to mass summon units on a battlefield if you have the Hands.

The key for the Necromancer is to build up forces while carefully measuring your sanity. Conserve your Hands for upgrades until you find the means to transform your necromancers into either a Vampire or a Lich.

Yep, you can change your necromancers into Vampires and Liches. Vampires are available to tier 2 necromancers and requires an Old Keep to do the ritual. Your champion will still be a champion and can be upgraded but will also have the benefits of the race it changed into. Vampires have more health and are decent in melee and have the ability to destroy farms to fully remove Insanity. Liches (available at tier 3) can cast two spells a turn and are completely immune to Insanity. Both these races also have immortality and will respawn at the citadel when destroyed.

So it is all about keeping your strength up while doing what you can to make your necromancers into their immortal forms. Then just mass produce undead and clean house. Enjoy!
