Choose which hostage to save
Now you have a choice to make – you can only save one of the two hostages. There is no way to save both. Once you go to one of them, the other dies automatically, no way around this.
On the right side you have Hotoke’s Husband. On the left side you have the Monk who you originally went looking for.
If you save the husband on the right, Hotoke will be happy with your choice. If you save the Monk on the left, Hotoke will be upset with you because you let her husband die and her child will grow up without a father.
Other than the lines of dialogue at the end of the quest, there is no far-reaching impact of your choice. It doesn’t affect anything else and also doesn’t affect your quest reward. So choose what you want, it doesn’t matter.
Once you go to your chosen hostage, you still need to defeat the enemies at the shore. You can do a stealth chain kill on the first few, shoot the shaman with arrows and defeat the rest with melee attacks. They will also try to kill your remaining hostage, indicated by the red icon above the enemy’s head. When you see this icon, kill that enemy right away or else they will kill the hostage after a few seconds.
After the Mongols are defeated the cutscene will play out where the saved hostage thanks you, the other lying dead on the beach, and Hotoke reacting to your choice.
