Console Comparison #9 - Olympic Summer Games (PSX/3DO)
This might seem like a mundane title at first, but Olympic Summer Games is a rather fascinating title that can be found relatively easily on the current used market. Developed by the UK based Silicon Dreams, the PSX version beats the 3DO port in almost every aspect such as framerate (Check out the horrific performance of the 3DO port in Swimming around the 15:00 minute mark) and added graphic detail.
A Sega Saturn port of the game was apparently in the works, but was cancelled at the last minute. Considering how poorly the 3DO version performs in certain areas, one can only imagine how poorly the Saturn version would have handled.
Game footage was captured from actual NTSC copies running on actual game consoles. Game footage for PSX was captured using LevelHike RGB to HDMI cables. 3DO footage was captured using an S-Video cable to Retrotink 2X.
