
Contained item manipulation (not to be confused with text pointer manipulation) (Generation I)
Notes: Just as you can turn item balls into battles with text pointer manipulation, there are ways to change the actual item contained e.g. Silph Scope to hex:00 item. Sadly the address (D511 here for Giovanni's Silph Scope) may be too far away in the memory for glitches like expanded inventory, but you can change it with enough steps with Pikachu's off-screen glitch (values 01-04 and FF) using Lg- to force Pikachu off screen, or the expanded party (here with a Pokémon 62 with 61 swap).
The glitch has potential to be more powerful; maybe it can be combined with text pointer manipulation to encounter Pokémon IDs 1-4 or the glitch Trainer from 0xFF, but this could be done by changing Trainers on the route anyway.
If somehow the item ball is changed to an unterminated name glitch item (done later in the video with arbitrary code execution for item 7B), you can get game freezes from it; and theoretically it might lead to another way to perform LOL glitch if the game finds a 0x50 byte and it corrupts CFD7/8 (opponent Pokémon) without a freeze.
