Could this NEW VR GAME be the DARK SOULS VR we want? // Quest 2 Airlink
470I've played a lot of VR sword fighting games, a lot of VR physics based fighting games and A LOT of VR action games and nothing yet has come close to feeling like a Dark Souls VR experience. Sure Hellsplit Arena comes close with it's awesome combat but it's more of a playground, without expansive levels and locations to progress through or a story to get absorbed into it misses a lot of what makes the Fromsoftware games so great. Today I jumped into a very early demo for GRIMLORD VR, a new VR game (and eventually new Quest 2 game) that's clearly taken a HUGE amount of inspiration from the Dark Souls franchise. From it's enemy designs & world aesthetics to the attack patterns you must learn to overcome more powerful foes there are elements of Souls peppered throughout this demo. Sure, it ISN'T ACTUALLY Dark Souls VR, but with enough love, care and development this has the potential to grow into a fantastic VR fantasy adventure that feels a lot like the games that inspired it.
Even in it's early state Grimlord VR has a tonne of potential, parrying enemy attacks is a particular high point for me alongside the boss fight at the end of the demo. There's still plenty of room for improvement but with lots of time still to fill before launch it's looking like Grimlord VR is a contender for the closest thing to Dark Souls VR (and a challenger to Blade & Sorcery / Hellsplit Arena) that we're getting anytime soon. This VR gameplay was captured using a Quest 2 airlink connection, Grimlord has also been announce for the Quest 2 as a native release but you can expect the visuals to look different.
