SWORDSMAN VR arrives on the Quest 2 BUT is it worthy?! // New Quest 2 Gameplay
480VR sword fighting, when done correctly, feels AWESOME, when the swords clash and you deflect an attack to create an opening for a deadly counter it really is an awesome experience that the best VR sword fighting games know how to emulate. Swordsman VR is one of the best VR sword fighting games out there, it's been a popular choice on PC VR and PSVR for a few years now and today it finally arrives as a native Quest 2 game... BUT is it a worthy port that lives up to the PC & PSVR versions? The answer is...partially. The Swordsman VR Quest 2 version is a far uglier game than it's older brothers, with murky/blurry visuals it often looks like a thick fog is rolling in to obscure everything in sight, even when you're indoors in the smaller areas the draw distance is criminally short. Textures are a little flatter, colours a bit more lifeless and some strange flickering/shimmering plagues the in game menus when you're not looking directly at them.
However the good news is the combat is mostly still intact, when you really get into the flow you can have some high intensity VR sword fights across a huge suite of content. A full story mode takes you through the ages battling Vikings, Samurai, Knights and more, an arena mode allows for endless play sessions, tonnes of weapons and armour sets are available and a GIGANTIC menu of modifiers menu you can switch up the experience to either have a tonne of whacky fun OR make the game far more challenging. The options are all there and the combat feels good a lot of the time but you can tell this one is struggling on the Quest 2. Performance issues, some strange bugs & some ugly visuals are currently holding this new Quest 2 game back from competing with the PC VR alternative for Swordsman VR, let's hope in time it reaches its full potential.
