Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review (Negative)
Cowboy Bebop Netflix Review (Negative). While this review is negative, I would like to make clear that I am not mad :-) This is not the angry ravings and rant of an anime nerd. That being said I also can't be a shill for Netflix and pretend like the show is good. Cowboy Bebop, for the few who may not know, is a classic Japanese Anime from the 90's that was highly reminiscent of American Western films combined with science fiction (sci fi) to create a compelling series with cross-over appeal between Japanese and overseas audiences. Many consider it one of the greatest anime of all time. None of this is at all reflected or achieved in this new live action remake by Netflix. Besides having some pretty suspect casting choices, like 49 year old John Cho (to play a 27 year old Spike Spiegel). And while I'm not a huge fan of the other main actors, Daniella Pineda and Mustafa Shakir, the worst aspect of the show that can't be sugar coated or hidden away is the poor writing. So if you want to experience the universe of Cowboy Bebop, with its iconic characters of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine, you are definitely best served sticking to the original anime by Studio Sunrise. Which is a shame because, on paper, Cowboy Bebop is a show that could work really well in live action (as it is more grounded and based on some live action elements), but the studio for the job is certainly not Netflix.
