ShmupArch 7 Release! Low Input Lag, High Quality Shmup Emulation!
412It's here! ShmupArch 7! For those new to ShmupArch, it is a project that I have been working on for about four years now with the goal of taking advantage of all of the amazing powerful features of RetroArch, but configuring the system specifically for shmup use. The stand-out feature is the use of run-ahead input lag reduction, where shoot em' ups are now able to respond within 1-frame which is massive for a lot of shmups that have struggled with input lag emulation over the years, like Batrider and Battle Garegga. In addition to the run ahead feature, shmuparch also runs at the correct arcade timing for these games, so the slowdown accuracy is fantastic. Because of this feature, but sure to ONLY use the Final Burn Neo core with Shmuparch, sadly the MAME core is garbage and runs terribly. I would love to see it improved in the future. For fans of groovymame, the core timing sync feature should be familiar and really stands out for players using CRT and Freesync/gsync monitors. Some cool updates for this release specifically are:
-Shnazzy new background and nice light scanline that auto-rotates
-general improvements to Retroarch and Final Burn Neo Core
-More run-ahead configs completed including Mars Matrix and Cotton
-Corrected dipswitch settings for the Cave games!
-New hotkey toggle feature that allows more hotkeys to be mapped without taking up space as inputs
-There is also a cute beetle icon from Mushihimesama located in assets/icon that you can use for the shortcut and folder to make them look nice and stand out.
-And the big one! Custom romhack for Dododonpachi created by Olifante that adds additional ship colors and mutes soundtrack. All you need to do is download the patched file and place it in system/fbneo/patched (the folders are already there for you).
