237Shmup Reddit Wars! Why Reddit Matters for the Genre and The New Electric Underground Reddit! In today's video I discuss the current situation going on with r/shmups, as well as my thoughts on the value of Reddit as a platform for a genre in general and how valuable it can potentially be. What's really interesting is that, due to the power of my Youtube analytics, I am able to compare the effectiveness of platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Discord, the Shmup Forum, and even my own website. Like I say at the start of the video, the intent of this discussion is not to stir up drama or make the situation into this big controversy or anything, but I do think that because of the rising trends of emulation like Retroarch, Shmuparch, the FPGA Mister, Grooveymame, and Low Latency Mame, the strict rules against emulation on r/shmups is going to continue to be a problem, if if the moderators come to their senses and unlock the reddit. Another reason why my new Reddit is going to be useful is because for a lot of smaller arcade genres like beat em' ups, Run n' Guns (Run and Guns), rail shooters, light gun games, and other skill based gaming, there are no places to post this type of content.
