Older Crash Bandicoot games are the best. End of discussion.

200% completion on Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back cannot be achieved through normal gameplay, but can be obtained via an interesting glitch that involves a bit of memory corruption via a LOT of bouncing on unbreakable boxes. This was played on a real PS1 with the PAL version of the game, no hacking. The video's been edited a lot so you don't have to watch me bounce so much (and die, since I did a lot of both.)

When I was much younger, I spent all my days on an old PS1, playing Crash 2, Spyro, Rayman, and other titles like that. To this day, Crash Bandicoot 2 remains one of my all-time favourite games, and I recently got reason to pick it up and play it again. I learned about this glitch from pirohiko's glitched any% TAS of this game on tasvideos.org, and I was interested in trying it out for myself.

What particularly interested me was this glitch allowed the obtaining of crystals and gems from levels that don't actually exist, allowing you to take your completion level well over 100% by performing it.

Game calculates percentage as follows:
1 crystal = +2%
1 gem = +1%
Secret warp room = +1% for each unlocked level.
Beat Neo Cortex at the end of the game = +3%.

Normally, there are 25 crystals, 42 gems, 5 secret warps and one final boss.
50 + 42 + 5 + 3 = 100%. Congrats.

With the glitch, it becomes possible to obtain 64 crystals and 64 gems instead. I have NOT been able to make this counter go any higher despite my best efforts, but if I can make it go higher, I'll probably post somewhere :P
Anyways:
128 + 64 + 5 + 3 = 200% by sheer coincidence. I lol'd when I saw it :P

Anyways, how the glitch works is that you must perform a chain kill with a chain of 200 or higher to obtain a glitched item. A chain kill refers to killing a certain amount of enemies in a row without landing. So, 200 enemies in a row. Should be impossible, right? Wrong. Because the unbreakable bouncy boxes also increment this counter, so you can just sit there and bounce on them, as long as you immediately land on an enemy and kill it afterwards.

But, there's more! By performing a special move that I demonstrate in this (spin upon landing and crouch immediately) the game does not set the ground flag and thinks you are still in the air. This allows you to keep the chain as long as you can land successfully in the special way. Then you just carefully kill enemies, and each enemy you destroy will give you a glitched item.

This is what I do here, and I obtain all the crystals and gems in the game, along with many more that aren't even supposed to exist, all in Level 2, Snow Go. I then beat the bosses, unlock all the secret levels, and defeat Cortex. All of this is in the video, and honestly, I don't expect anyone to watch to the end, but if you do, you win a cookie. (You also get one for reading this far in the description.)

Playing this game the normal way is a lot harder, and I prefer doing it the normal way too, but I wanted to do this to satisfy my curiousity. If you've never heard of this game before, I do highly recommend it, it's very fun. I'm not sure, but I believe you can get it on PSP/PS3 via respective stores, but I wouldn't know because I don't own either.

Anyways, enjoy my longest video to date, even if most of it is killing suicidal seals.
