Arcade Boost has completely different patterns compared to Original Mode, and even more brutal! No. Brutal is not the right word; it's SADISTIC.

To clarify, brutal, means harsh. But doesn't necessarily do things that would make you think the mistake was done 10 seconds before it manifested. Sadistic, means it'll make you do mistakes that you wouldn't see until 10 seconds later! In this case, if you don't lower your rank, you're OUT.

Patterns are mainly tap-dodgers due to the general speed. Think of Raiden games. On normal rank where Break mode is off, it's a standard affair. The problem is when Break mode is on: 2x bullet speeds mainly, but even worse is the counter bullets! As weird as its position in the menu is, Boost Mode is not easier than Original Mode: it's far harder! For your sanity, consider Arcade Boost as the 2nd loop!

The main attraction of Boost mode is the rank system. You're at the lowest rank when Break mode is off. The nightmare truly starts when, ironically, you enter Break mode where your shots get boosted. The longer you stay in this mode, which is infinite until you bomb, by the way, the harder things get. I don't think the main bullet shots get sped up? BUT, the counter bullets get worse. Perhaps when you stay long enough the bullet speed goes as fast as 3x speed! It's so bad so many shots become so sudden you must tap dodge before the enemy even appear! Hyper, yikes.

That's not even the worst of it! The key to survival is to know when to reset your rank and slow things down. When you bomb it consumes Break gauge, the cost goes up as you use more bomb including when you're in Break mode. Sounds simple? Plus, the bomb cost can be reset! The thing is... the game isn't transparent with how much your bomb cost get recovered. At earlier stages you don't get to fully recover your bombs! Then getting the stage boss bomb recovery item doesn't mean you will fully recover your bomb cost! Maybe 50% at most while you'll be likely to spam bombs! Then when you enter Break mode your break gauge gets reset, effectively nullifying any use of bombs! To add to the horror when you stay at Break mode long enough the bomb cost DO recover, albeit VERY SLOWLY! So many teases to not bomb, yet you're punished to both not bombing and bombing too much! Awful!

The patterns are completely new compared to Original too. Most of the patterns by default are easier to tackle than their Original counterpart. But they're generally faster with the possibility of 2x speed while in Break mode. For those who can't handle fast dense bullets, this is a nightmare! Some segments especially TLB's are impossible to dodge except when you bomb too! Really, really poorly balanced!

Criticisms aside, this is a very fun mode in a masochistic way. It's like lifting a very heavy weight. But... if you can't handle rank or you find counter bullets cheap, stay away from this mode until you have the courage. It's a NIGHTMARE!

The mode would be far more pleasant if the game is clearer with its info, especially the bomb cost recovery. That would make estimating bomb usage quota far less stressful!
