So as it turns out, I wasn't nearly as done with the first major dungeon as I thought I was, and hadn't even seen the real boss yet. Apparently getting the next major ability was truly only half the battle; the remaining half involves actually using it.
For as much as this game inundates you with formulaic sidequests in the overworld (which isn't entirely unreasonable given its whole MMO gimmick), it apparently goes surprisingly deep when it comes to the main dungeons.
I'm wondering how deep the plot will go when the game's ready to pick back up on the twists it hinted at early on...
