Terranigma first full playthrough, part 10
0We're on to the final chapter, but there are still a few loose ends around the world I'd like to tie up as well, and fortunately advancing chapters doesn't lock me out of doing that.
In the final stretch, the game makes sure to remind us that they went out of their way to insert a whole host of meaningful NPCs, en route to finishing matters with Beruga, before advancing to the true final battle.
While this game is leaps and bounds over Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia in most respects, it unfortunately still suffers garbage final boss design much like IoG in particular, which certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. There is a _lot_ of waiting around for the boss to be vulnerable, and I chugged a _lot_ of health items in the final part. Ironically, the one time I thought "hey now's probably the time to use all this magic I never used in the entire game", you're not allowed to use it on the one boss where you'd really want to just to speed it up by hitting it while it's out of reach...
Speaking of magic: Nifty came into my chat again the night after I finished this and dropped an extremely important knowledge bomb about magirock. Apparently it's NOT single-use, but recycles back to rock form after you use the magic you crafted out of it, so you can craft more??? The game literally never told me this, so I was hoarding throughout the entire game thinking that it was an absurdly limited resource. That's one thing they could've afforded to explain much better... I've since checked the game's manual and even that doesn't make this mechanic clear.
