Description:
Crossworlds is a MMORPG that goes beyond virtual and augmented reality. Player avatars and enemies can manifest in reality using Instant Matter, allowing them to use the physical world itself as the game's setting.
Lea is a mute Crossworlds player who spawns on the ship, MS Solar, instead of the usual starting area. Even more unusually, she is guided by Sergey, a non-player who has the ability to adjust her avatar's speech functionality. Unfortunately, Lea is forced to flee to the main MMO zone, the Playground, when she's attacked by a mysterious avatar who seems to know about her past.

The first playable portion has you control Shizuka / Bento-chan, a powerful Spheromancer who tears her way through every enemy the mysterious figure throws at her. Unfortunately, she arrives too late to save her developer brother, Satoshi, from dying of overworking. Is this some kind of stealth criticism of companies that make their employees work overtime?
Control switches to Lea, a mute Spheromancer who needs a tutorial to learn her basic skills. Due to the way the ranged attacks require an aiming reticule, I decided to try this game with keyboard and mouse.
At some point, Sergey, Lea's handler, mods her speech functions so she can say "Hi."
Eventually, Captain Jet of the MS Solar will make you fight a midboss battle against a turret to learn about guarding, but the training session is interrupted by a sinister blue avatar, who forces Lea to fight something a bit stronger.

If I were a game journalist, I would probably be legally required to include all my failed attempts just so the controversy will result in more site traffic. After some offscreen tries, I figured out the basics of the boss. It cannot be damaged in its normal state, but it will eventually jump too high and stun itself, exposing its weakpoint. I wish the weakpoint was implemented so we could climb up the boss from any four sides instead of just the south side.
The boss didn't use it here, but it can fire a homing bubble attack that requires the guard action.
Afterwards, you'll have to flee to the teleporter at the bottom of the ship, but the blue avatar will spawn OP enemies to oneshot you. Every time you die, you'll have to redo the room you're in. Once you escape, Captain Jet will use a Neutralizer device to wipe out all instant matter, which the enemies and Crossworld avatars are made of.
Lea will arrive in the second part of Crossworld's tutorial, where she meets Emilie, a competitive Pentafist. I'll save the tutorial dungeon for next episode.
