11Trapped in a time warp and reeling from an economic embargo that has grated for more than half a century, Cuba is a country where you can wave goodbye to everyday assumptions and expect the unexpected. Chuck walks the cobbled streets of Havana, the timeworn but magnificent capital of this island country and tastes a pulled pork sandwich at a food ration store in the heart of the city. There's rarely been a better time to visit Cuba. Private enterprise is displaying the first buds of a creative spring. Chuck has coffee with Enrique Nunez, the owner of paladar La Guarida, a restaurant located in a private manor. A magical place where Madonna celebrated her birthday and Usher got married. It is time for Chuck to head to the countryside. He buys fresh ingredients at a local market in San Miguel and cooks his own version of the Cuban rice and beans in a banana leaf. Made famous thanks to the rum-swilling exploits of Ernest Hemingway Chuck visits La Bodeguita del Medio, Havana's most celebrated bar and the best mojito in town. Past visitors have included Salvador Allende, Fidel Castro and Nat King Cole, all of whom have left their autographs on La Bodeguita's wall along with Chef Chuck Hughes.
