Let's Play Curse of the Dead Gods, a game that has taken me by surprise and leaves Early Access on February 23, 2021. This is an action roguelike with a top down isometric view that borrows systems from a lot of different games. Enjoy permanent progression from Hades? Got it. Enjoy a Slay the Spire style map where you can plan ahead on your run? It's in the game. Methodical combat involving limited stamina similar to the Fromsoft Souls games? Absolutely. How about torch management like in Darkest Dungeon? You didn't even know you wanted that in this game, but you do. There's even a whole Corruption system that most will compare to Darkest Dungeon, but to be honest in implementation it feels a lot more like Eternal Darkness. The thing that gets me though? It all works, and works very well.


This first run goes through the short version of the Jaguar Temple. Probably the most straightforward of the three -- but even then it presents some very interesting challenges.

Curse of the Dead Gods is a hard game that is light on story but very heavy on action. Meta progression will get you to where you need to go eventually, but there are a lot of skills you need to master just to eek out some progress. I can see myself putting a lot of time in this one -- so I figure I might as well start with a fresh save file for YouTube just to showcase the game.
