Points covered in this video:-
Daily Practice Questions -
1. Radius of curvature of a concave mirror is 25 cm. What is its focal length?
a. 11.5 cm
b. 12 cm
c. 12.5 cm
d. 13 cm
Solution 1. Here R = 25 cm,
f = ?
From
f = R/2
= 25/2
= 12.5 cm
2. An erect image 3 times the size of the object is obtained with a concave mirror of radius of curvature 36 cm. What is the position of the object?
a. -12 cm
b. +12 cm
c. -28 cm
d. -10 cm
Solution 2. Here,
m = 3
R = -36 cm
u = ?
As, m = -v/u
3 = -v/u
v = -3u
As 1/v + 1/u = 1/f = 2/R, 1/-3u + 1/u = 2/-36
Or, 3u = -36
u = -12 cm
3. A concave mirror produces a real image 10 mm tall, of an object 2.5 mm tall placed at 5 cm from the mirror. Calculate focal length of the mirror and the position of the image?
a. + 8 cm and 15 cm
b. - 4 cm and -20 cm
c. + 4 cm and +20 cm
d. - 6 cm and -15 cm
Solution 3. Here,
h2 = -10 mm, h1 = 2.5 mm, u = -5 cm
As, m = h2/h1 = -v/u
= -10/2.5 = -v/-5
v = -20 cm
Negative sign of v shows that image is real.
1/f = 1/v + 1/u
= 1/-20 - 1/5 = -20/5
f = - 4 cm
