Before those guys at id Software let us loose in FPS labyrinths full of Nazis and Hellspawn, they were making games like this: simple platformers with even less story.

So then, Dangerous Dave In The Haunted Mansion, also (less commonly) known as Dangerous Dave 2 (yep, this is a sequel of sorts!). What's the objective?

The aim is to merely run around an enormous mansion (with some of the most unconventional layouts in existence), collecting treasures while blasting away all sorts of zombies and monsters with your trusty shotgun.

It may look easy, but it is in fact unfathomably hard to avoid death in certain situations; enemies can attack from off-screen (while your shotgun is cursed with the power to only be able to hit what is visible), and this can make some of the jumps nothing short of rage-inducing.

Still, it's a fun little way of spending a few minutes, provided you can accept that death is invariably inevitable.
