Daniel's Difficult Day - an Amazing Writing Machine Spin
Yet another computer game I enjoyed using as a kid and teen was Broderbund's "The Amazing Writing Machine". Think of it as Kid Pix Deluxe combined with Microsoft's Creative Writer. Using it, you could write stories, poems, letters, essays and journals, and illustrate them as well. The "Spin" mode would give you a story or poem template or whatever, and you could fill in the blanks with pre-typed options or your own, in a Mad Libs fashion, along with black-and-white background illustrations you would color and add characters and props to. One of the story Spins was "Daniel's Difficult Day," and since my real name is Dan, I couldn't resist working with this one back when I was eleven years old. The game even included some unique text-to-speech voices, one of which can be heard reading this story for you.
