The commentary in this video is based on a beta product. Specifically, the Network Test for Dark Souls 2. Access to the beta was granted primarily for testing the online infrastructure. It's not intended to be a demo.
However, it was inevitable that players would attempt to dissect the game. In addition, it was safe to assume that some players may have an unfavorable view of the unfinished product. It's likely that this fact was considered. Ensuring the performance and integrity of the online systems may have outweighed that concern.
As Dark Souls 2 is still in development, significant changes may take place - not only to the online systems, but to gameplay mechanics and the game's overall content. What we've seen is an extremely limited portion of the game. A partial vertical slice. We've seen very little of the game's environments, enemies, player character possibilities, and overall gameplay.
Despite the beta being months away from the release, there's at least some room for speculation. What we've seen so far may give us a loose idea of the game's overall direction. This is the basis for my commentary thus far.
