Darktable 3.6.1 has been released with improvements in camera support and bugfixes. Check out what's new and see how to install or update on Linux.
Darktable is an excellent image processor that works with the RAW format and is available for free in versions for the main Linux distributions, Mac OS X and Solaris, under the GPL version 3 or higher.
An open source alternative to Adobe Lightroom, Darktable allows photographers to make non-destructive edits to their images, as well as manage, sort and organize photos.
But, unlike other apps in the category, instead of being a raster graphics editor like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP, Darktable works with a set of tools specifically aimed at processing photos in RAW format.
And as it uses non-destructive editing, it is mainly focused on improving the photographer's work process, making it easier to manage large amounts of images.
Darktable 3.6.1 has now been released as the first maintenance update for the Darktable 3.6 series.
What's New in Darktable 3.6.1
Released in early July, Darktable 3.6 arrived as a major release that introduced several new features and improvements, and now, Darktable 3.6.1 is here as the first one-off release to fix some nasty issues and also add support for new digital cameras .
First, Darktable 3.6.1 adds basic support for Leica C-Lux (3:2), Nikon D6 (12-bit compressed, 12-bit uncompressed, 14-bit compressed and 14-bit uncompressed), Nikon Z fc (12-bit compressed and 14-bit compressed), Sony Alpha 7R III (ILCE-7RM3A) and Sony Alpha 7R IV (ILCE-7RM4A) cameras.
Second, it features a noise profile for the Ricoh GR III camera.
As for bug fixes, this release improves consistency between CPU and GPU path in color calibration module, addresses a small UI issue in duplicate module, improves module expansion function in quick access panel when activating or disable a module and fixes a fault that might occur in the color calibration module.
Also fixed a possible issue found in OpenCL Bradford's non-linear code in the color calibration functionality, which could lead to incorrect color rendering, a crash that occurs when renaming a drawn mask, an issue affecting color picker rendering tooltip as well as the filename variable used when importing new images and some memory leaks.
Last but not least, Darktable 3.6.1 addresses a possible issue in the Exiv2 library that could occur when trying to write empty strings and fixes the scale button in the export module.
