Day 1: Composing 'Sifu' Combat System | gamescom asia 2022 Conference
“Easy to learn, hard to master” has been the holy grail of combat design in games. Yet going against this saying might sometimes result in a miraculously satisfactory outcome — in this case for Sifu. It is painfully challenging to learn but doesn't lose its fun and still find its way to a large audience.
Speaker Théo Caselli spearheaded the design of many of the core combat mechanics that made Sifu an indie success story of 2022. He will go through how the team managed to achieve this through their fascination with martial arts and many iterations on combat systems.
