I managed to get a Co Op game setup. It was actually surprisingly easy. There is no actual in game option to do multiplayer, it is all handled through steam overlay.

How to:
1-Hit shift-T
2-Right click a friend and select join game
3-Launch a new hab and you will land directly (and I mean directly next to your friend).

Possible bug: The second hab I launched had no nodes. The host's hab however did.
