Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge - REAL 3 Player game Supermodel (r803) Beginner v2
30Some more Daytona USA 2 multiplayer, recorded back from when I enlisted a couple of my mates to take part in some 3 player games a few months back. I'm the car on the right, Mark's on the left and Lights' is in the middle. What was interesting here, was that Mark, who's normally, by his own admission, a bit of a spaz when it comes to anything game related, suddenly seemed to just 'get' Daytona USA 2's handling and started playing really well. It made for some super competitive games between the 3 of us, even with the emulators only running at about 25fps (I've sped the video up afterwards to an approximation of normal speed). We're all using PS3 Dualshock 3 pads to play it, which are working on PC using a programme called DS3 tool.
The Supermodel network doesn't run at full speed. I used to think this was due to the fact you have to disable multi-threading (the -no-threads option needed in network game on Supermodel), but the Supermodel developers now believe that the actual network itself is causing the slowdown due to the nature of how it sends and receives information. Experimenting, I found I could simultaneously run 2 non-linked versions of Scud Race with the -no-threads option on with a frame rate hovering around 55fps, with some dips to about 45 and peaks of around 57. Interesting...
One of the biggest improvements to the network recently, is the fact the Scud Race Beginner Day stage is now no longer buggy and filled with graphical artefacts which crash the game. The network code has also been replaced with TCP which means you can pause the emulation and it won't time out. I think this refers to the fact that now if you close one of the emulators, the other one doesn't immediately hang like it used to.
