Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge Vs Power Edition
This is another side-by-side comparison I'm surprised I'd not thought of doing before; The two different arcade version of Daytona USA 2 going head-to-head on their respective beginner stages, which despite sharing the same track layout are both very different to look at.
With these side-by-side videos I always try and get the '3 2 1 -Go!' countdowns in sync, and by a happy coincidence in doing so this time I managed, unintentionally, to get the music in both stages perfectly synchronised as well. They go out of sync at the end during the staff roll, so I temporarily mute one until the name entry screen. Of the two versions of the Beginner stage I definitely prefer the look of the BOE version with the whole wacky biodome theme (and I also prefer the look of the Chums Gum beginner car to the JC Eagle one in PE). Overall though I think PE is definitely the superior game, with it's extra car and challenge course and I think the AI are tiny bit more forgiving on the later stages (although I didn't see any evidence of that in this stage).
...and getting first place in both versions of this definitely feels a lot harder than getting a first in the Beginner stage of Daytona USA 1.
This is using the WIP 0.3 version of Supermodel 271
