De-Rusting My Lee Versus A Demon | Tekken 8 Lee Gameplay
This was recorded June 25th, and is my first ever long set I’m posting for Tekken 8. It’s definitely worthy of posting though, which is why I’m making it the first one of its kind, since the ASBR days at least.
My opponent in this video was genuinely one of the best players I’ve fought in season 2 of Tekken 8, and they really had me out here sweating when I was just pulling my Lee out after weeks lol. Humble is a TGS Leo player who I guess subs Clive, and they very much play like a TGS player should. They knew a lot of Lee counterplay (ssr duck vs HMS, knew the strings to duck etc…), and it’s always a joy to fight someone who actually plays like they deserve their rank, instead of someone who has bad fundamentals and is clearly carried by their character. I’d like to think I can also fit that description, but probably less so than this guy.
As you may know, I have very mixed opinions about Clive. I don’t really think he’s top 1 like some people say, and I’d argue he’s top 10 at best, but this guy definitely makes him look like he could be top 1. He was making me reconsider my counterplay options a lot, like how he knew that I knew you can powercrush vs the heat f2, 2 strings, so he started blocking after the first two hits and killing me for it, and also stuff like 1+2 spam, ff2 spam, b2 spam etc… just generally really safe options you can choose from. That’s why I started trying to ss duck vs Clive a lot, which beats most options like that including low pokes like db4 and d1, as well as other highs like db1, but Lee has a horrible step so it had mixed results. My main takeaways from skimming this VOD at first are I needed to use more 1+2 when he was minus, since he did ws4 ss a lot, and ff2 ss a lot. I could have also baited ff2 into 1+2 for an acid storm launch, and I’ll keep that in mind for the future too.
Generally outside of Clive specific stuff, I noticed my whiff punishment could have been a lot better, as well as my hit confirming since I dropped f2, 1 hit confirm way more than I should have. Same with df4, 4. I did hit confirm d4, n, 4, 4: 4 a good amount, same with 2, 2, 3 so that’s good at least. I wasn’t expecting perfect gameplay anyways since I haven’t really played Lee online in a few weeks, at least semi-seriously. I need to use more fc mix I think as Lee, especially fc df4 into HMS. I usually just do fc df4 into ff3 and that can be stepped easily, so I should mix it up a bit more. I’m aware that I also said last video I was going to just work on my Lars for the next few weeks, but I lied I guess. It’s okay though, one set doesn’t hurt much.
Let me know what you think of this style of video compared to my ranked sessions, like I mentioned in the outro. I would love to post more stuff like this in the future, it’s always really fun to play people in long sets. There’s a reason that’s what all my old content used to be after all! Thanks for watching as always, and I will see you next time!
