This is a tactic that's been shown in some earlier videos already, but I thought it deserved its own video too.

There are a few Chapters in this game where passing a certain time on the clock activates an intrusive "deadline cutscene". In a cutscene such as this, NPCs will typically complain about York being too slow and leave for the day. Chapter 12 deadline cutscene is particularly intrusive as it not only interrupts York's activities but it also teleports him mid-town near Galaxy of Terror.

A deadline cutscene can overlap with any open world activity during which time runs, which causes some buggy results. To be more precise, you can overlap a deadline cutscene with binoculars, hiding in a dumpster and fishing.

The binoculars break-out in particular is a very powerful glitch tech that is used to do the Chapter 12 skips and cause a lot of other mayhem inside the game. You can start it with either a Sigourney break-out or a deadline break-out. Deadline break-out is generally speaking a faster and more convenient of the two, although as established, it's only available in a few Chapters during the game.

0:00 - Chapter 12 deadline break-out while fishing. The fact that York's position gets tampered with during the cutscene causes a pretty interesting outcome: after the overlapped cutscene is finished, the game's focus returns to the fishing spot which is now only half-loaded. After exiting fishing, the focus finally returns to York's true location, which is now mid-town near Galaxy of Terror.

1:48 - It seems that the fade-outs caused by fishing can also influence overlapped cutscenes. In this alternative take, the deadline cutscene gets stuck before even the first line of dialogue has been said because of York's catch and the ensuing fade-out. I then quit fishing while the deadline cutscene is stuck. Exiting fishing finally causes the cutscene to continue properly; this time York's true location is at the fishing spot, and Emily also magically appears there to complain to York.

3:08 - Afterwards, the focus returns to the half-unloaded fishing spot. It should be noted that you get "invisible York" as a side effect quite often when testing fishing overlap. It seems to always happen if the game can't resolve fishing activity properly; this is explained by the fact that the York that you see while fishing and the in-game York are not the same character. The game makes real York's character model vanish, and if the fishing can't resolve properly, it will never get brought back, hence resulting in a model-less and invisible York.

In the past, Spookycookies made a pretty extensive video about invisible York already. As a brief summary, while York is invisible, he doesn't produce any sound effects that are tied to his character model (i.e. footsteps, grunts, etc.). He also can't talk to any NPCs. Collision still works like normal. Certain actions like fishing and hiding return him back to visible again.

4:05 - Chapter 12 deadline break-out while hiding in a dumpster. This is a completely unique effect to this deadline cutscene in particular, again because York's location is tampered with during it.

The cutscene itself looks surprisingly normal (hence, I skip it). Afterwards, the game's focus remains on the dumpster, although York has seemingly escaped it and it looks empty. The prompt to exit the dumpster doesn't work. You instead press 'pause', as if skipping a cutscene, to get the game to continue working normally; this finally reveals York at his true location which is near Galaxy of Terror.

5:18 - Just out of curiosity, I tried what happens if you run out of stamina while hiding in an inescapable dumpster: the game crashes.

5:33 - As a less obvious and not particularly useful but still funny side effect, activating a deadline cutscene while falling out of bounds will make the cutscene play underground as well. Emily really has surprisingly solid sleuthing skills, the way she is able to find York no matter where he is hiding trying to shirk from his responsibilities.

(Not on the vid: blowing up your car as the deadline cutscene activates doesn't create a very interesting result. The cutscene looks normal; afterwards he instantly dies.)
