Deep Cut - Fins In The Air: FAN LYRICS (Splatoon 3)
19Imagine with me if you will, a music video (flashback noises): We open on Frye, alone in the bathroom at the club. She's dressed nice, but her makeup is ruined. She's been crying, her head in her hands at the sink. We see, in the mirror, Shiver entering the room behind her. She sees Frye and freezes, as though unsure of what to do.
We take a beat, then, from over Frye's shoulder and with the mirror obscured, a hand enters the frame. Shiver holds a tissue out, catching Frye's attention from the edge of her view. Frye takes it, thanking Shiver before she wipes at the edges of her eyes. They introduce one another, and Shiver asks tenderly what's wrong. Frye explains, through stifled sobs, that her partner (boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever you'd like to imagine) left the club with another girl, not even bothering to say anything to her. Shiver puts a hand on Frye's shoulder, suggests that she forget her now-ex, and invites her to come have some fun.
We're shown a few rapid cuts as the music begins. Shiver leads Frye out of the club and down city streets. They get a few drinks at a nearby bar. They pick up some chocolate at a shop next door. As the lyrics start, the pair enter a street fair, playing games and riding rides as the song progresses. By the final line, they're in a rented karaoke room, singing their hearts out to Fins in the Air under the light of a cheap disco ball. After the song has ended, we get a shot of the two passed out on the couch in the karaoke room, "Fins" playing diegetically in the background, as an employee walks in to tell them their time is up.
Now that that's out of the way...
I had so much fun writing lyrics for this one! As you can probably tell, I thought a lot about the direction I wanted to take it, and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Definitely didn't almost cry writing the lyrics for the chorus! Nope!
