-----------------------------------------------------
This level is VERY HARD. Indeed, if you don't have a level editor at hand to look at the tricks on this level. You'd need Legend of Zelda level exploration to finish this*
At (1:20) There is a tricky trigger that opens the exit door. You need to move left and right in the pipe to trigger it at the right location. Now imagine the unlucky fellow who managed to fight all his way through this mine and realize at the end that they cannot leave there... EVIL!
The situation improves a lot after you picked up the fusion cannon and recharged there.
At (3:10) there are 3 cloaked drillers there which unload their guns if you go closer. The room is dark and quite hard to notice them unless they move. You need to look for a bit darker blobs.
At (3:40). Would you find that secret blowable door that lead inside the pillar? Since your shot disappears there. It reveals itself. But isn't not obvious.
At (4:50) The blue area is pure evil. The level designers exploited the engine's weirdness that you can make levels that intersect themselves. So mechs can be in parallel dimensions and they can fire at you because you are in the same segment they are, you only see you are damaged but you don't see where does the shots coming from, because the segments the mechs are in is not visible to you.
I couldn't find out what's the geometry of the 3×3 grid of self intersecting rooms. But fortunately I could find out where to go in then. At least the adjavent rooms are not entangled.
Thank god the architect didn't stuffed the area full of red mechs!
The initial yellow area is normal there are 6 matcens spitting advanced lifter. You can salvage lot of shields from them. But be careful they can crush you if you are not careful.
But then you need to go through the lava maze. I hate it. Because I keep touching the frikkin walls all the time, and all projectiles explode on the wall like a rocket... You need to memorize it. Otherwise it will gradually grind you down I'm sure. I wonder how did the hostages survived the heat...
At (20:40) that thing I fire at is the corridor leading to the exit... Would you even think it's hidden there?
The reactor is protected by a dozen of red mechs. Fuson cannon is very effetive there. Because they store in the projectile's state which mech it hit last time. So if two mechs are very close to each other this thing can be constantly updated, and the same projectile would hit the same mech repeatedly.
You can see I once destoyed 3 red mechs with a single shot (22:10).
After the blowing up the reactor. Exiting isn't hard.
* In Legend of Zelda, you need to literally blow up all the bushes and trees to find the secret passage for progress. In Descent this would mean onloading your batteries in every wall...
