I compared the fusion cannon with the v1.0 and v1.4. You can see a fusion fire cost 2 energy and kill a miniboss in 4 shots.

While in the original Descent 1 shot cost 5 energy and takes forever to kill anything with it.

Since I played the first 1-27 levels in v1.0 I concluded the fusion is useless but they have fixed it in v1.4.
