Lately I'd been feeling a pang of frustration over my habit of taking on "instant gratification" tasks. Bounties that take a few minutes to complete, little things that take up less than a half-day's worth of effort before being considered done - I wanted to sit down and put work into a project that I would have to come back to over a long period. I think in the end, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do something bigger and resist the temptation of giving up, even when running out of steam. I wanted to complete this without cutting corners.


Oh yeah, then Bungo announces the raid will get sunset, as I'm halfway into editing the video. Perhaps that was the toughest thing to keep soldiering on after.



Am I proud of the result? I don't know. There are videos out there with incredibly higher production values. Am I satisfied? That, I am. Some minor mistakes may have made it in, but the overall result should be solid enough. I've never "made" a video before. I'd only splice a handful of clips and speak over them. This time, I had to show diagrams and plans. I had to figure shit out, with the little means I had.


Random notes and lessons learned:
* Did you notice I was using a pop filter? Now you know exactly how much I paid for that pop filter.
* When you have zero graphic design skills, Wingdings is a life saver.
* A good 50% of the work time went into making things fade in and out.
* Perfect is the enemy of good.
* Redoing a voice line is a disaster, because the retake always sounds starkly different from the rest of the dialogue.
* Repeatedly replaying parts of the video can reveal mistakes made over a week ago and yet gone unnoticed until now.
* There's no dang way I'm even gonna attempt to flawless this raid.
