Devs confuse Last Epoch community with new potion changes
Last Epoch is doing another potion rework. The devs posted an overview, but the community is divided on the plans. Let’s dive into this interesting potion situation.
Hey everyone this is Thyworm and today, I want to go through the article on the Last Epoch forums that got posted a few days ago. The article speaks of potions, the current issues with them and what is going to change. The community however, doesn’t seem to like the planned changes all that much. To get a full grasp on the situation, which I’m exaggerating somewhat for the sake of the story here, let’s read up on some history first, with another article that was posted in March, 2019. Initially, potions functioned a bit more like they do in Path of Exile. They automatically replenished themselves after killing enemies, but the devs didn’t like that. Instead, they wanted potions to actually drop, allowing other players to pick it up, should multiplayer arrive in Phase 3, and also to make combat a bit more tactical with you having to run back for potions, sometimes trying to evade really dangerous enemies.
I can relate to that last situation, especially in the arena: my minions killed a bunch of mobs, quite a few potions lie on the ground, but the question is, am I brave enough to go and pick them up, knowing I’m out of potions, but at the same time, I’m also really squishy as a necromancer? My point is, the intention back in March seems to have worked. The current system has a belt with a certain amount of potion slots, that’s how many potions you can carry, potions drop from enemies and you pick up new potions by simply walking over them.
It’s all good, you might think. But, apparently not. There’s been feedback on the current potion system from the community and once again the developers have their own ideas about potions and their purpose. It caused a healthy discussion in the article responses, which by now has been dealt with by the developers. And can I just say that once again, the transparency from 11th hour games is very refresh, in both the article and the reactions to that.
