DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #38 - Act 3 Chapter 2 Part 2 COMPLETE
I made an honest attempt of this without using the Yuffie strategy, but I think it may be impossible to use Freya here without Mog. I tried with both Garnet/Lightning and Garnet/Eald'narche but you need water damage and Garnet was the only option I had for that, and her damage was extremely low. I did get reasonably close especially with Lightning but there is just way too much going on with this boss, you can't even delay via break.
However, while I used the Yuffie cheese, I actually turned it into a challenge by not allowing myself to use a third unit or friend unit. This actually turned this cheese strat into a surprisingly difficult but interesting puzzle challenge, as this guy works against Freya quite a bit even in this context.
Freya's Last Stand gets dispelled (Soothing Petals framed buff) at the very start, so you can't tank the first hit with it after throwing the HP Poision back. While you survive the attack at the very start just fine, the boss gets a lot of BRV and you can't shave it without using a call since Freya has offensive buffs roped into Soothing Petals as well. Additionally, half of Freya's HP Regen comes from her Soothing Petals buff (at EX+ 3/3), and the HP Poison out paces her HP Regen just slightly even with both Regen buffs active. So I used a Hope LDCA to both shave and heal. Then you can take the next attack just fine.
For the boss' second attack, he will freeze you, so you can use a Setzer call here so both the initial freeze attack and the attack on the next turn can't do anything to you. Also, using Reis' Wind with Freya is necessary here, as the boss will dispel another buff later, and IIRC it's the earliest applied buff, so you need to use Reis' Wind so it will reapply and be considered a "later" buff than the ones applied by Hope.
Normally I should get turns after getting out of the freeze and reapply Soothing Petals but the turn order went wonky here and the boss used it's recast again. Freya dodged it thankfully though. However, the boss is now at 1%, we have HP Poision, and we are lacking Soothing Petals for HP Regen. We also have a debuff that delays us every turn and only a few turns left on the Orb. However, I was able to manage because I removed "Life Up" summon board passives in advance, and used AAs to have Freya and Yuffie just shuffle turns here to wear off the HP Poison. This wouldn't have worked if Freya's AA itself was not a party HP heal but thankfully it came in clutch once again and I was just about able to outpace the Poison and make the tight HP requirement.
You may think this was easy cheesy like any old Yuffie run for this stage, but this took at least an hour of testing different calls and experimenting with how the boss mechanics actually worked! I tried many calls, including Paladin Cecil, who you would think would work here (and he would in other setups), but the problem is that I needed someone who could give Freya actual buffs so I could keep some Regen on, as using a Paladin Cecil CA/LDCA to finish off the boss would fail the HP requirement. It's easier if you use other characters with HP damage mitigation or that prevent the boss from acting but I wanted to try and still make this a challenge with Freya since the boss actually does a lot to hinder her specifically.
I may try a more proper run of this again but I am a bit burnt out right now and want to do other things. We also have Abyss coming up, so maybe I will have something to upload from that.
